Dimerco Express Group arranges PVG-JFK charter

This story has been updated with additional info from Dimerco Express Group Taiwan-based logistics company Dimerco Express Group completed a Korean Air Cargo-operated charter service from Shanghai (PVG) to New York (JFK) on May 21 using a B777-300 passenger aircraft. Currently, routes from Asia to JFK are experiencing capacity shortages, especially from mainland China, making this route an obvious choice for charter operations, Kathy Liu, director of global sales and marketing at Dimerco Express Group, told Air Cargo World . [caption id="attachment_79011" align="alignright" width="300"] Photo/Korean Air Cargo[/caption] “As most airlines are directing their capacity, especially for freighters, into [Los Angeles] and [Chicago], it leads the shortage of freight capacity into JFK,” said Liu. Dimerco’s chartered arrangements typically transport electronics, e-commerce, personal protective equipment (PPE) and chemical products said Liu. In addition to Korean Air, Dimerco’s chartered flight arrangements are operated by Air China, China Airlines, Cathay Pacific and EVA Air, said Liu. While a majority of Dimerco’s charter flights are freighters, the company also arranges passenger flight charters based on customer need, said Liu. Typically, passenger flight charters offer an average capacity of 35 tonnes, she said. Dimerco Express did not specify what type of aircraft was used for the PVG-JFK charter. Other trade lanes are also in high demand and in need of charter operations based on varying regional challenges, said Liu. Regions include India for the transport of PPE and other COVID-related goods; the EU and U.K. due to recovering buying power; and Southeast Asia for IT-related goods for employees working from home. Dimerco’s global network spans 17 countries in China, Asia-Pacific, India, North America and Europe, and transports a variety of cargo including electronic equipment, automotive equipment, PPE and e-commerce goods, according to the company’s website. Dimerco was ranked at No. 24 in Air Cargo World’s most recent Power 25 ranking of the world’s top airfreight forwarders, based on 2019 airfreight tonnage.
