CGO cargo operations normalizing after weather disruptions

Record-breaking rainfall and severe flooding earlier this week in Henan Province disrupted cargo operations at Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO), one of Mainland China's busiest cargo airports. Although export customs processing and outbound freighter flight operations have mostly normalized, carriers continue to report customs processing delays for air cargo imports. [caption id="attachment_89128" align="alignright" width="342"] Photo courtesy of Cargolux.[/caption] Cargolux, which has a significant freighter operation at the airport said it is again starting to operate flights according to schedules. "Flight delays have been experienced as a result of the impact of the storm, but things are returning to normal,” a Cargolux spokesperson told Air Cargo World . “Although cargo flights are not restricted, customs processing of imports into CGO are delayed, but exports are not affected.” Since Tuesday, flights to and from CGO have been canceled or diverted, according to flight-tracking software. Since then, there have been around 509 canceled departures and 503 canceled arrivals. Among those arrivals, 39 have been diverted to 22 airports in China, including Guiyang (KWE), Xining (XNN), Hangzhou (HGH), Xiamen (XMN), Shenzhen (SZX) and Shanghai (PVG). While some flights still appear to be canceled through July 23, most are either still scheduled or have an unknown status, according to flight-tracking software. Alexander Korte, senior director of China air and sea operations at DSV Panalpina, also confirmed that while there were some disruptions, such as blocked highways and delayed flights, airport operations at CGO have already returned to normal. Zhengzhou Airport is China's fourth-largest cargo airport in terms of tonnage. Last year, CGO handled 639,000 tonnes of cargo and mail last year, according to data from ACI.
