Moya targets 2027 entry into service for eVTOL, hybrid eVTOL

Brazil-based drone developer Moya Aero hopes to obtain certification for its electric and hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing drones in 2026 ahead of placing them into service next year. The company is conducting flight tests with its Moya 256 electric-hybrid propulsion and all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) prototype vehicles, and plans to start flying its serial production models to complete regulatory approvals this year, Moya told Cargo Facts . To assess the capabilities of its hybrid eVTOL, Moya signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on operation with Brazil-based Speedbird Aero on April 6, the drone developer said. Speedbird develops, manufactures and operates drone delivery systems and is certified for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations with multiple aircraft models. It has successfully completed almost 40,000 commercial drone missions, according to an April 13 release. In addition to providing support with BVLOS operations and uncrewed aerial logistics for Moya’s 256 hybrid eVTOL, Speedbird and Moya are exploring possible integration of Embention’s Veronte Autopilot system as a multi-drone command and control platform, enabling Speedbird and Moya to offer their UAVs as a single drone-as-a-service platform, Moya said. Continued testing Moya announced its selection of Spain-based Embention’s Veronte Autopilot System for its uncrewed cargo drone platform in June 2025 after unveiling plans in March that year to develop its own remote ground control system. Meanwhile, Moya simulated more than 150 vertical and horizontal flight configurations with the Moya 256 during wind tunnel tests at the Institute of Aeronautics and Space in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, the drone developer said in September 2025. Unlike most VTOLs, which only have a horizontal transition flight envelope of 0 to 20 degrees, the Moya 256 has a range of 10 to 90 degrees. Moya received an experimental flight authorization certificate for its hybrid eVTOL from the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority in 2025. The drone developer’s all-electric prototype can carry a payload of 200 kilograms for about 110 kilometers, while the hybrid-electric version has a range of up to 300 km for the same payload.
