AerSale upbeat about 757 demand

Florida-headquartered AerSale is confident about the investment it is making in the acquisition of twenty-four 757-200s due to strong demand for either feedstock or converted frames. The company, which announced in September 2020 it would acquire the twenty-four aircraft and convert at least some of them into freighters, has now bought eighteen 757-200s, all ex-American Airlines units ranging from 1993-vintage to 2002 and with Rolls-Royce RB211 engines. (Photo/American Airlines)[/caption] AerSale is making “meaningful progress” on its 757 acquisition, CEO Nicolas Finazzo said in a release on the company’s first-quarter earnings. Eighteen aircraft are already contracted or under letters of intent for sale or lease, including four freighter conversions that AerSale expects to complete in 2021 at its own facility in Goodyear (GYR), he said. Two aircraft are undergoing conversion at GYR under Precision Aircraft Solutions’ STC: unit 29594, which arrived at GYR in late December 2020, and unit 32400, which arrived at GYR in March 2021. The company has already sold one aircraft: the 2001-vintage unit 32381, which as of April belongs to National Airlines. The carrier, which operates five 747-400BCFs along with one passenger 757-200 and a single A330-200, could not be reached for comment on its plans for the new purchase. Apart from the 757s, AerSale also sold a 737-800 (32799, ex-Miami Air International) to Canada-based KF Aerospace in March. That aircraft will eventually become a freighter . Even as more A321Fs are set to hit the market, interest in and demand for 757 freighters has continued . Canada-based Cargojet recently said it had signed a letter of intent in March to purchase a 757-200 — possibly AerSale’s unit 29594 — while BlackRock recently acquired an ex-Air Astana unit (28833) and will induct it for conversion to freighter configuration in July. Russia-based Aviastar-TU added units 27056 and 27054 (both ex-American Airlines) in March and April, respectively, on lease from Airwork. Meanwhile, Precision Aircraft Solutions will soon complete the first of three 757-200s Icelandair sold for conversion last year . That aircraft (29311) arrived at the Avocet MRO facility in Sanford (SFB) in December 2020, while the second (26244) arrived at the HAECO Xiamen facility in April 2021.
