Intradco Global charters AN-225 for PPE

[caption id="attachment_83155" align="alignright" width="450"] Courtesy of Intradco Global.[/caption] Intradco Global, the Chapman Freeborn company that has historically chartered aircraft for animal shipments, has pivoted during the COVID-19 pandemic and will now arrange shipments of critical personal protective equipment (PPE). Intradco recently arranged a PPE charter using the world’s largest commercial freighter, the AN-225, for a shipment from Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The flight included technical stops at Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). The AN-225 has a cargo hold capacity of 1,100 cubic meters, and the Intradco flight shipped 13,000 cartons of PPE totaling nearly 1,000 cubic meters in collaboration with Toronto-based handler GTA GSM. Intradco’s move into PPE shipments is a notable example of the flexibility required to successfully facilitate cargo shipments amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Live animal shipments have slowed significantly during the pandemic, with carriers including American Airlines Cargo, Delta Cargo, Alaska Airlines Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo and Air Canada Cargo implementing either partial or total embargoes on live animal shipments. “Difficult times call for adaptability, and I am proud of the Intradco Global team for adjusting our usual offering to assist in the PPE supply chain efforts,” said Intradco Global Director Charlie McMullen of the pivot. “As live animal movements became very restricted, we switched our resources to seeking out new air charter capacity while there was a surge in demand for PPE.” Going forward, Intradco plans to undertake additional charter arrangements outside its live animal shipments, and said it plans to launch a new division within its current company aimed at other niche air cargo products. The shipments will fall under the new heading of Intradco Projects. Chapman Freeborn arranges an estimated 29,000 charter flights per year.
