Logistics operators expand US footprint

Global logistics providers Omni Logistics and Rhenus Air & Ocean opened new warehouses in the U.S., expanding their presence in the Midwest and West Coast. Dallas-based Omni Logistics today opened a warehouse and cross-dock facility near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to grow the company’s presence in California, according to today’s release. The 251,606-square-foot facility includes 42 dock doors and more than 10,000 pallet positions. [caption id="attachment_57132123" align="alignright" width="528"] Photo/Omni Logistics[/caption] The company’s Los Angeles warehouse follows the opening of two facilities in Portland, Ore., and Nashville, Tenn., both planned in advance of peak season , an Omni Logistics spokesperson told Air Cargo World . The Portland facility, which opened Sept. 7, spans 52,000 square feet and is located near Portland International Airport (PDX), according to a release. The Portland facility supports Omni Logistics’ Pacific Northwest high tech customer base, the spokesperson said. The company will consolidate international exports and handle Next Flight Out (NFO) services at this facility. Meanwhile Omni’s Nashville facility, also opened Sept. 7, spans 67,500 square feet and is located near Nashville International Airport (BNA) , according to the release. Both warehouses will be equipped with full scanning capabilities, an advanced warehouse security and monitoring system and dimensional technology to dim freight electronically. The warehouses will help Omni Logistics carry its customers through a busy peak season and onward, the spokesperson said. The company is planning its next warehouse opening in Atlanta by late fall, the spokesperson added without providing further details on the facility. Omni Logistics, which provides multimodal logistics solutions and specialized services, has been focused on growing its footprint around the globe, with more than 100 locations worldwide. The new facilities follow the Aug. 25 opening of three Dallas warehouses , which make up a 366,711-square-foot campus near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The company also opened a new Dallas corporate headquarters in May. Rhenus grows Midwest presence Netherlands-headquartered Rhenus Logistics today announced the opening of a warehouse near Indianapolis International airport (IND) — its first in the Midwest — to accommodate growing demand in the U.S. See also: Cargo Chat: Rhenus Logistics’ Schmersahl on regional expansion The 139,930-square-foot warehouse will begin operations by the mid-fourth quarter of 2022, according to today’s release. The warehouse has already reached 50% capacity for high-tech machinery, e-commerce and medical device industries. The warehouse will be equipped with sustainable initiatives like LED lighting, electric forklifts, low CO2 emissions and recyclable packaging, as well as services like pick and pack, sorting and returns management, the release stated. Rhenus’ warehouse arm, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, operates more than 155 warehouses around the world, including more than 20 in the Americas. Rhenus and Omni Logistics join the list of stakeholders looking to strengthen operations in the U.S. Kuehne+Nagel on Sept. 7 opened a 166,000-square-foot multiclient, Good Distribution Practice (GDP)-compliant facility near IND to support the need for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical goods. DHL Express on Sept. 7 relocated to an 86,000-square-foot facility near San Diego International Airport (SAN), more than doubling the space of its previous warehouse.
