Amazon to open two Ohio fulfillment centers

Today, Amazon announced plans to open two new Ohio fulfillment centers – one in Akron and the other in Rossford.

Each fulfilment center will be over 700,000 square feet and will support the packing and distribution of e-commerce orders to customers in Ohio and its surrounding catchment zone between New York City and Chicago. Amazon’s statement also said both facilities will include robotics, but no further details regarding project timeline or infostructure details for the facilities have yet been announced.

The announcement follows Amazon’s order for 15 additional narrowbody 737 freighters via lessor GECAS last month, and movement forward on prep for construction of its future facilities at Lakeland Airport (LAL) last week.

At its airports serving the Ohio area, Amazon also recently broke ground at the site of its main hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) last month, and is scheduled to open new air facilities at Wilmington Air Park (ILN) and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) later this year.
