Amazon’s Dallas-area regional hub ready for October opening

Amazon announced today that its Regional Air Hub at the Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW) will open in October. The new hub, which was announced last December, is designed as a build-to-suit facility and is intended to support the carrier’s “larger–scale regional needs,” such as sortation operations and multiple flights a day.

The facility is the “first airport project of its kind” in the Amazon Air network, according to the carrier. In other “firsts,” the carrier’s e-tailer parent company announced a lease on a multi-story urban fulfilment center near Seattle just two days ago, which the company lauds as the first of its kind in North America.

“We are excited to start flying to and from our new facility at the Fort Worth Alliance Airport very soon – this facility will allow us to offer even more selection and faster delivery to our customers,” said Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Global Air. “This is our latest investment in Texas, and we look forward to hiring top talent from the local community.”

Amazon anticipates the new facility will create 300 new, full-time jobs as operations progress to full capacity. The company is hosting a Dallas Amazon Career Day event on September 17th for interested candidates.
