AIT Worldwide makes second 2021 acquisition with Intelligent Logistics deal

Illinois-based freight forwarder AIT Worldwide Logistics is acquiring Intelligent Logistics, a Texas-based forwarder with facilities in Austin and San Antonio. Intelligent Logistics’ verticals include technology, food and beverage, automotive, manufacturing and e-commerce reverse logistics, according to an AIT Worldwide press release on the deal. AIT Worldwide’s chief information officer Ray Fennelly highlighted Intelligent Logistics’ treatment of all its freight as time-definite, along with its proactive communication strategy with its customers, as a “solid foundation” for the deal. [caption id="attachment_96494" align="alignright" width="450"] Photo courtesy of AIT Worldwide Logistics.[/caption] The Intelligent Logistics acquisition includes the addition of 70 employees, 143,000 square feet of warehouse space, and 40 dock doors at the company’s two facilities in Austin and San Antonio, according to the press release. The company also has expertise in truckload brokerage, an operations area that AIT President and CEO Vaughn Moore earlier this year told Air Cargo World he expected AIT to expand. Intelligent Logistics’ Texas location also provides AIT with firmer footing for its cross-border growth plans for Mexico, which Moore told Air Cargo World is a target market for expansion. “AIT has built a strong network in Mexico over the past several years including a robust transborder business,” Fennelly, who led AIT in its most recent acquisition, told Air Cargo World . “The continued expansion in Texas is considered to be a valuable accelerator for the company’s existing U.S.-Mexico services and operations.” As with AIT Worldwide’s acquisition of customs broker Multimodal International, announced in June , the companies did not disclose terms of the deal. The Intelligent Logistics acquisition aligns with the company’s current focus on organic and M&A growth following its recapitalization in March , when private equity firm Quad-C Management sold the business to The Jordan Company.
