CEVA Logistics grows LatAm footprint with Cargex acquisition

France-based freight forwarder CEVA Logistics announced today it is acquiring Colombian freight forwarder and perishables expert Cargex in a move that aims to grow CEVA’s presence in Latin America. CEVA will also gain control of the Cargex-affiliated customs brokerage Agencias de Aduanas Aduanamos upon closing, according to a release from CEVA. Cargex currently has operations in Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena, Buenaventura and Santa Marta in Colombia. As part of the acquisition, Cargex General Manager Pablo Torres will join CEVA as director of perishables for Colombia and Ecuador. The 3PL expects the Latin American perishables market to grow annually by 10% through 2024, and is expanding its Skycapacity program to support transport of Latin American exports to international markets. CEVA launched its Skycapacity program in April , consisting of fully chartered freighters and passenger freighters connecting North and South America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, CEVA’s COO of air freight, Peter Penseel, told Air Cargo World at the time. CEVA’s current perishables product focus in Latin America includes fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and other proteins, and CEVA is aiming to grow its business by more than 50% in all of its 10 current country markets. “Our position in Peru and Chile, and most recently in Brazil, reflects our successful strategy to create reliable local lines of business and lasting relationships with airline partners, as well as to leverage cross-selling opportunities in ocean freight in refrigerated containers,” said Nadia Ribeiro, CEVA’s managing director for Latin America, in the release.
