Philadelphia-based logistics company BDP International has opened its fourth office in the hub city of Port Said, Egypt – its 150th office internationally – further bolstering its presence in Africa.

“Africa has been poised as the next frontier for supply chains,” said BDP’s managing director of Middle East, Turkey and Africa, Fikret Ersoy. “We now have a presence in each of Egypt’s major ports and strengthened our position in the market.”

Recently, carriers and logistics companies have increased their presence in various regions of the African continent – namely Kerry Logistics, Turkish Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding. According to the Ministry of Commerce, in 2017, trade between Africa and China grew 19 percent and exports from China to Africa increased 3 percent to nearly US$47 billion.

Africa is well-known as an exporter of consumable and perishable cargo, like coffee and flowers, while on the import side, demand for e-commerce has been on the rise.

BDP’s office will service clients in chemical, petrochemical, consumer goods, industrial, “fast-moving consumer goods,” textile and retail customers, providing its ocean, customs clearance, project logistics and ground transportation services.
