FRA to require ground handlers to reserve slots via digital platform

Fraport joined the movement of digitalization last week, releasing new slot booking requirements for ground-handling companies that operate at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). The new truck slot-allocation system will require companies to book slots online using the airport’s Fair@Link door management platform, starting on May 15.

Fraport’s own ground handler, Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS), worked with independent handling company LUG aircargo handling, which also operates out of the hub, to address the increased traffic and congestion experienced at the airport in late 2017.

“By exchanging data digitally through Fair@Link, we have already been pursuing the goal of speeding up the processes in the CargoCities for some time now,” Felix Kreutel, senior vice president of cargo at Fraport AG. “This initiative by LUG and FCS will bring us a major step closer.”

Companies will not be required to utilize the Fair@Link software, but those that choose to opt out will have to use an onsite computer at the terminal to make reservations. Fair@Link will, however, will offer a “slimmed-down” version of the software free of charge.
