Dear Cargo Facts reader, After much toil and effort, Cargo Facts , along with Cargo Facts Consulting, is pleased to unveil the new Freighter Capacity Index . We have built this index as a diagnostic tool for the air cargo sector. The monthly index uses proprietary data and formulas to determine the amount of dedicated freighter capacity in active service globally. The goal of the index is to help you determine whether there is too much, too little or the appropriate amount of maindeck capacity in the market at any given time. The index, which changes as maindeck freighters enter and exit service, uses maindeck freighter capacity as of April 2019 as its baseline level. The Cargo Facts and Cargo Facts Consulting teams spent months working on this index. The critical aspect of the index is Cargo Facts’ Freighter Aircraft Transactions database, which records freighter transactions in great detail. The database fuels the index’s underlying algorithms. I want to thank the Cargo Facts and Cargo Facts Consulting teams for their efforts putting this index together. I am confident that the index will offer unique insight and data on market conditions, hopefully informing fleet decisions and strategies worldwide.
