Air France-KLM cargo revenue up 4% despite ‘complex environment’

Air France-KLM Group reported 565 million euros ($653.3 million) in cargo revenue for the second quarter, an increase of 3.6% year over year. Air France-KLM “continues to navigate a complex environment marked by geopolitical tensions, rising taxes and airport charges, as well as ongoing tariff uncertainty, with the details and impact of the recent EU-U.S. agreement announced last week still to be clarified,” Chief Executive Benjamin Smith said on the company’s July 31 earnings call. (Courtesy/Airbus)[/caption] The agreement between the European Union and United States reportedly includes a 15% U.S. tariff on most EU exports. However, the governments have agreed to zero-for-zero tariffs for all aircraft and component parts. The group reported $9.8 billion in total Q2 revenue, up 6.2% YoY, and $750.6 million in net income, up 293.3% YoY. The group also reported for Q2: Income before taxes of $1.1 billion, up 330.4% YoY; 218,000 tonnes of cargo carried, down 0.2% YoY; 3.6 billion available cargo tonne kilometers (CTK), up 1.4% YoY; 1.6 billion revenue CTKs, up 1.1% YoY; and A load factor of 45.5%, down 0.1 percentage points YoY. Full freighter capacity was negatively affected by longer-than-expected maintenance, the July 31 earnings report stated. The carrier group has six A350Fs on order after it canceled orders for two in March following news of Airbus’ delivery delays. Three of the A350Fs are scheduled to join KLM subsidiary Martinair, which will be the first in the group to operate the type, and the other three are scheduled to join Air France, the carrier told Cargo Facts in March. The carrier expects its A350F deliveries to begin in 2027. The A350Fs will replace Air France’s two production 777Fs and KLM’s four 747-400Fs . The carrier group operates: Two 2009-vintage 777Fs (32965 and 32966); Three 2003- and 2004-vintage production 747-400Fs (33694, 33695 and 33696); and One 1990-vintage 747-400BCF (24066). Shares of Air France-KLM Group ( OTCMKTS: AFLYY ) were down 2.31% from market open to $1.27 as of market close July 31. Shares were down 1.57 % from market open to $ 1.25 as of market close today. The group has a market capitalization of $3.5 billion. IAG Cargo revenue up 10% International Airlines Group (IAG) reported $359.5 million in Q2 cargo revenue, up 9.9% YoY, as market yields remained elevated despite “evolving market conditions impacting global supply chains,” according to the company's earnings report released today. “We delivered good growth in our cargo business, [with] the IAG Cargo team prioritizing premium products and high-yield regions such as Asia-Pacific and India,” Chief Financial and Sustainability Officer Nicholas Cadbury said on today’s earnings call. [caption id="attachment_57143453" align="aligncenter" width="1920"] (Courtesy/Bloomberg)[/caption] The carrier group posted $10.2 billion in total revenue, up 6.8% YoY, and $1.3 billion in profit after tax, up 23.8% YoY. The group also reported in Q2: Operating profit of $1.9 billion, up 35.4% YoY; Profit before tax of $1.7 billion, up 27.4% YoY; 1.3 billion CTKs, up 1.6% YoY; and Cargo revenue per CTK of 24 cents, up 8.2% YoY. IAG Cargo does not operate freighters, relying on belly capacity on passenger aircraft operated by IAG subsidiaries. By subsidiary airline in Q2: Aer Lingus reported 42 million CTKs, down 10.6% YoY; British Airways reported 933 million CTKs, up 1.3% YoY; Iberia reported 303 million CTKs, up 4.8% YoY; Level reported 10 million CTKs, down 9.1% YoY; and Vueling did not report any CTKS in Q2 2025 or 2024. IAG Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo announced plans in April to create a joint cargo business that, subject to regulatory approval, will let the carriers offer enhanced connectivity, faster transit times and new route opportunities. The carriers aim to kick off the venture in Q4 . Shares of IAG ( OTCPK: ICAGY ) were down 0.6 % from market open to $ 9.91 as of market close today. IAG has a market capitalization of $23 billion. Amazon net income climbs 34.7% Amazon reported $167.7 billion in net sales in Q2, up 13.3% YoY, and net income of $18.2 billion, up 34.7% YoY, according to the company’s Q2 earnings report released July 31 after market close. The company also reported in Q2: Operating income of $19.2 billion, up 30.7% YoY; Income before taxes of $20.9 billion, up 36.8% YoY; and Diluted earnings per share of $1.68, up 33.3% YoY. Not included in its Q2 earnings, Amazon held its largest Prime Day sales event July 8-11. Amazon has not released revenue or volume details from Prime Day 2025. However, Cargo Facts determined that Amazon aircraft flew 2,616 hours and 41 minutes during those four days, an increase of 213 hours and 22 minutes from the corresponding four days in June. Hawaiian Airlines began operating its tenth and final converted A330 freighters for Amazon on a CMI basis in Q2, per a deal signed in 2022 . Hawaiian is now flying all ten A330-300P2Fs (1902, 1863, 1865, 1874, 1081, 1071, 1226, 1245, 1167 and 1205) for the e-tailer, putting units 1167 and 1205 into service in Q2. Shares of Amazon ( NASDAQ: AMZN ) were down 8.27 % from market open to $ 214.75 as of market close today. The group has a market capitalization of $2.3 trillion.
