Alaska Airlines to run SmartKargo for airfreight booking

Alaska Airlines has chosen SmartKargo to provide its booking engine for Alaska’s North American cargo business, the carrier recently announced.

The cloud-based software uses a “smart booking process” that is user-friendly, and has a back-end system that condenses the booking requirements onto a single screen. The engine comes pre-loaded with key information, such as IATA regulatory and commodity codes. SmartKargo is also compatible with IATA’s electronic air waybill program, which is central to the paperless initiative.

Air cargo volumes are rising again, after a slow start earlier this year, and carriers are looking for ways to differentiate, according to Jason Berry, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of cargo.

SmartKargo provides similar solutions for carriers around the world, including Oman Air, Hawaiian Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air.
