American Airlines begins daily LAX-to-Beijing service

American Airlines launched its sixth daily route between the United States and China with the addition of flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Beijing (PEK). The carrier also flies to Beijing and Shanghai from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Chicago (ORD).

American Airlines Cargo president Rick Elieson said the airline sees the addition of new U.S.-to-China routes as a chance not only for Chinese shippers to send goods to the U.S., “but we are also giving them the ability to open up new markets through onward connections with our vast Latin America network, where there are many opportunities for Chinese exports.”

The first outbound flight on the new route departed LAX on the evening of Nov. 5, and the return from Beijing landed at LAX the next afternoon – a schedule that will repeat each day, the carrier said. American Airlines expects flights bound from the U.S. will carry high-value and time-sensitive cargo, such as electronics, medical and pharma products, perishables and e-commerce shipments, while flights departing China will carry automobile, television and computer parts.
