Ameriflight digitalizes maintenance records with GE Digital software system

Texas-based cargo carrier Ameriflight entered into a digital partnership with California-based software company GE Digital, adopting its Aviation Asset Records software, which digitizes, indexes and archives copies of maintenance records that can be used to make more informed decisions. The cloud-based solution allows Ameriflight to “access records related to individual aircraft that can then be connected, so the operator has data related to both internal and external operations and documentation between airline and lessor,” Andrew Coleman, general manager of GE Digital’s aviation software business, told Air Cargo World . [caption id="attachment_97795" align="alignright" width="502"] (Photo: Ameriflight)[/caption] The data can be viewed and interpreted using a customized dashboard, Ameriflight Director of Quality Cliff Hansen told Air Cargo World . By pursuing the new approach to data visualization, Ameriflight aims to increase its aircraft performance through greater efficiency and less possibility of operational disruption. In turn, Ameriflight can make more informed decisions on its operations based on the data available. “Before utilizing this tool, we had a more clunky system of red bagging records and forms, manually mailing them to our centralized headquarters, and evaluating them there,” Hansen said. “With decentralized bases and send backs for corrections, this sometimes took up to 30 days to complete. Using the GE Digital Aviation Asset Records will allow us to record the data, make changes and store within days instead of weeks.” Ameriflight’s cargo fleet consists of 156 aircraft, and operates flights on behalf of express carriers UPS, FedEx and DHL. The carrier plans to implement fully digital documentation of its aircraft records by the end of 2022, Hansen said. GE Aviation’s software business joined GE Digital from GE Aviation in late 2020, Coleman said. In addition to the Aviation Asset Records solution, GE Digital offers various sustainability solutions that help carriers reduce carbon emissions. Currently, GE Digital software is used on 50% of U.S. aircraft and 20% of all aircraft, globally. GE Digital recently completed sustainability software agreements with Emirates, Etihad Airways and Malaysia Airlines.
