Amerijet grows network, connectivity with new 757s

Miami-based Amerijet plans to have six 757-200Fs in operation by mid-April, bolstering the carrier’s network expansion plans and providing additional capacity to secure new contracts with customers. [caption id="attachment_98801" align="alignright" width="462"] Photo courtesy of Amerijet[/caption] The first of the six aircraft operated its first revenue flight from Miami (MIA) to Santa Domingo (SDQ) on March 8 after proving runs and Amerijet plans to have each of the remaining five 757Fs enter service every 10 days, Amerijet CEO Tim Strauss confirmed to Air Cargo World . “Half the fleet will go into our current scheduled network, and the other half is yet to be determined,” Strauss said. “For the three aircraft I'm talking about, there are probably 14 options out there right now so we're trying to strategically decide what works best, takes care of the customer, and also gives us the best long-term opportunity.” Amerijet aims to ramp up the frequency of its weekly flights between MIA and Brussels (BRU), initially launched in 2018 , to three to five times per week if aircraft scheduling permits. The carrier also began flying between Liege (LGG) and Tel Aviv (TLV) from New York (JFK) on behalf of a customer in August 2021, both of which are new destinations, Strauss added. The 757s are the “right aircraft for what they call ‘high, hot’ airports, so like Lima (LIM) and [other] places that are high altitude, which make your engines run hotter,” he said. “So those are new locations we’ll go to.” Considering that many of Amerijet’s ACMI and CMI operations remain driven by e-commerce demand — with DHL Express a major customer — the new 757Fs will provide opportunities to enter new contracts, Strauss said. Nearly every existing contract has been extended as clients are now willing to sign longer-term deals, something which never would have been considered prior to the pandemic, he noted. Amerijet has been growing its fleet and branching out from its scheduled cargo operations since the start of the pandemic . Currently, the carrier’s global network includes 476 destinations in Europe, Asia-Pacific, South Africa and the Middle East, according to the company’s website. The carrier also operates a 360,000-square-foot facility with a 40,000-square-foot handling center for perishables, equipped with refrigerated, frozen and chilled storage options. Excluding the incoming 757s, Amerijet’s current fleet consists of eight 767-300BDSFs and six 767-200BDSFs, and Strauss hinted at opportunities to add further CMI aircraft toward the end of 2022.
