Changes at Amerijet as Air Canada’s Strauss takes CEO role

Tim Strauss, vice president of cargo with combination carrier Air Canada, is set to join Miami-based all-cargo carrier Amerijet International Airlines as CEO on Aug. 17, Amerijet said today.

Current Amerijet CEO Vic Karjian will move to the executive chairman role, focusing on developing Amerijet’s strategic planning, key partnerships and growth objectives.

Amerijet did not respond to a request for comment, but it’s likely that Strauss’s work with Air Canada Cargo’s extensive trans-Atlantic operations will assist Amerijet as it grows its own operations in the market. The carrier received its Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS) certification on March 12 of this year, allowing it to launch nonstop cargo service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Brussels (BRU). The ETOPS certification increased the maximum diversion time for Ameriijet’s fleet of 767 freighters to 180 minutes, as reported by our sister publication, Cargo Facts.

Air Canada Cargo has not yet announced a replacement for Strauss, but said it would do so “in due course.”

“Tim has played a key role in heading up our cargo division identifying airfreight transportation opportunities over the last three years and especially during the past several months,” the carrier told Air Cargo World.
