DHL Aviation to begin VCP service with ECS Group subsidiary as GSSA

[caption id="attachment_17646" align="alignright" width="450"] Photo/DHL[/caption] DHL Aviation is launching six-times-weekly service connecting Viracopos (VCP) with Miami (MIA) via Bogota (BOG), with ECS Group subsidiary BCS AIR to serve as general sales and service agent (GSSA) for the operation. Beginning July 10, the route will operate every day except Sundays using a 767-300F, according to today’s release from ECS Group. BCS Air will dedicate a four-person team to support DHL Aviation, which also utilizes ECS Group for its GSSA needs in Chile. With the Brazil deal, DHL Aviation is now one of ECS Group’s main customers in South America, Paco Ortega, ECS Group’s regional vice president of Central and South America, said in the release. ECS Group expects cargo demand on the route to include a mix of automotive, pharmaceutical, high-tech, footwear and general cargo, alongside express shipments. International cargo connectivity within the Latin American market has been particularly strained compared to other regions since the decline in passenger service in 2020. According to traffic analysis from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), 2022 has already seen significant improvements for the region. In February, the most recent month for which data is available, the region reported a 21.2% year-over-year increase in international cargo tonne kilometers . The additional capacity from DHL should further support the region’s recovery, ECS Group noted. “Despite regular services already being provided by UPS, Avianca and LATAM, this is much-needed capacity that DHL Aviation is bringing into the Brazilian market, and it therefore opens up great development potentials for a wide range of businesses: particularly to Colombia, Central America, the Caribbean and Florida,” Joao Luiz Ferreira, managing director for Brazil at BCS AIR, said in the release. DHL could not be immediately reached for comment. ECS Group already has added several new routes to its GSSA portfolio in 2022 through local subsidiaries, including its partnership with Iceland’s Bluebird Nordic for Denmark flights and its deal with Brazil’s Azul for U.S. cargo sales. The GSSA has also grown its digitalization efforts through last year’s launch of its Cargo Digital Factory and this January’s partnership with Wiremind Cargo to form the independent company CargoTech .
