A week after IAG Cargo began offering service for ultra-time-sensitive cargo, DHL Global Forwarding (DHL-GF) has entered the highly sought-after emergency logistics market with its own product, called SameDay Speedline. The service will offer “best flight out” shipping and proactive monitoring, from origin to destination.
DHL-GF, the forwarding arm of Deutsche Post DHL Group, said it the mission-critical service will include round-the-clock pickup and delivery every day, guaranteeing collection within 120 minutes and quotations within an hour. Most of the material shipped via SameDay Speedline will likely be urgently needed spare parts, critical medical supplies or new products that must get to market on a tight deadline. DHL-GF said it expects the service to be popular among the aerospace, aviation, automotive, electronics, energy and life sciences industries.
“The emergency shipment market is growing with just-in-time inventories for industries from aerospace and energy to manufacturing to adapt their supply chains,” said Ingo-Alexander Rahn, global head of airfreight for DHL-GF. “The need for mission critical shipment delivery to avoid line-down situations continues to arise and requires a partner that has the global reach combined with the technology to provide transparency to each sector-specific logistical challenge.”
SameDay Speedline will have a global network of more than 50 stations, covering the greatest geographical demand for emergency shipments, but the service will be coordinated through SameDay Contact Centers in the U.S., Singapore and Ireland. DHL will also offer customized milestone updates of the movement of customers’ shipments movement after the logistical event. In case of an irregularity, DHL-GF said the SameDay serivce can offer a resolution within minutes.
DHL-GF said it came up with the service after surveying more than 200 customers from various industry sectors about their needs for emergency shipments.
