Emirates’ new daily service targets Mexican perishable exports

Emirates launched a new daily service from Dubai (DXB) to Mexico City (MEX) via Barcelona (BCN), yesterday. Although MEX is not a new destination for Emirates SkyCargo, the new passenger flight to the city will also serve to increase available capacity for cross-border perishable exports out of Mexico City.

The Emirates flight is scheduled to depart Dubai at 03:30 local time daily, arriving at BCN at 08:00 local time before departing again at 09:55 and arriving at MEX at 16:15 the same day. The return flight departs from MEX at 19:40 local time, arriving at BCN the next day at 13:25 to continue on at 15:10 bound for DXB, where it will arrive at 00:45 the following day.

The 777-200LR aircraft will offer up to 14 tonnes of capacity for cargo and will provide more access to global markets for Mexican exports, such as avocados, berries and other fresh produce, according to Emirates.

Since Emirates began flying out of Mexico City in 2014, it has seen significant growth in exports from the city and reports having carried over 33,000 tonnes of cargo on the route since April 2018. With the new schedule and capacity, the service is expected to facilitate convenient onward connections for cargo exports out of Mexico City to destinations across India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
