Emirates SkyCargo introduces bonded trucking corridors to Riyadh

Emirates SkyCargo has introduced two bonded trucking corridors in Saudi Arabia connecting the airports in Dammam ( DMM ) and Medina ( MED ) with Riyadh ( RUH ). The carrier said in a press release it has launched these two new corridors in response to customer demand, and to provide additional capacity options for businesses overseas sending cargo to Riyadh. A bonded corridor allows carriers to bring international goods past the port of entry into authorized locations within a country without customs release. With the introduction of the two bonded lanes, cargo bound for RUH can also be moved via flights to DMM and MED from Dubai and then trucked to Riyadh, where it will go through import customs clearance. Emirates SkyCargo will offer same-day delivery to Riyadh for cargo trucked from Dammam and Medina. The bonded lanes service is intended to increase the connectivity and delivery options to Riyadh for cargo arriving from around the world. Emirates SkyCargo’s trucking service, with a fleet of 49 trucks, is operated 24/7 by Eastern Allied Transport, an affiliate of Allied Transport Company, between Dubai International Airport ( DXB ) and Dubai World Central ( DWC ). Emirates SkyCargo said in its release that it has worked closely with the government and customs authority of Saudi Arabia, along with the ground handling and trucking partner, to implement the new service. Emirates SkyCargo currently operates the trucking service up to five times a week, based on customer demand. Trucks are tracked using GPS, and cargo loaded into them is secured with tamper-proof seals to ensure safe arrival in Riyadh. According to the carrier, the main commodities being moved via the service are garments, courier and other general cargo. Emirates SkyCargo currently offers just over 1,000 tonnes of combined export and import cargo capacity into Riyadh through its 27 weekly flights. In the last five years, the carrier has helped transport more than 138,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Riyadh. Some of the major commodities it has helped transport include chilled meat, electronic equipment, pharma and other types of general cargo. In addition to Riyadh, Emirates SkyCargo also operates flights to the Saudi Arabian destinations of DMM, MED and Jeddah ( JED ). Although Emirates SkyCargo currently only offers import capacity into Riyadh through the trucking service, the carrier is also evaluating export opportunities based on market demand.
