Encouraging gains reported at Fraport’s airports in September

Air cargo volumes at airport operator Fraport’s facilities rose at all the company’s high-volume airports, except for Lima, which fell another 9.5 percent, year-over-year, on the back of Chile’s ongoing market downturn. At Fraport’s flagship operation, Frankfurt, y-o-y cargo volumes rose 5.8 percent to 176,921 tonnes.

While less significant in terms of volumes, Fraport’s two Bulgarian airports continue to turn in impressive growth statistics. At Burgas, cargo was up 19.3 percent, y-o-y, to 1,131 tonnes for September, while Varna rose 23.7 percent to 12 tonnes – again not a large increase in tonnage but representative of a longer-term trend.

Despite a 9.3 percent increase in movements, and a 13.1 percent rise in passenger numbers, Fraport’s third biggest holding by volume, Xi’an, China, saw its cargo volumes dip by 2 percent to 22,040 tonnes. However, year-to-date numbers at the same airport were up 8.5 percent to 167,398 tonnes, suggesting that the movement is, so far, not too worrying.
