Express Cargo Airlines nears launch with 737-300F

Indonesia will soon be home to another freighter operator flying the 737 Classic. Express Cargo Airlines is performing test flights with a 1990-vintage 737-300F (24789, ex-Africa Charter Airline) as part of the certification process and hopes to receive its air operator certificate (AOC) in July, the new startup told Cargo Facts . (Photo/Express Cargo Airlines)[/caption] Express Cargo Airlines was founded in January 2022 and is a subsidiary of Indonesian freight forwarder Eka Cipta Mandiri, the carrier added. Unit 24789 arrived in Indonesia in the second half of 2022 and was operated by Cardig Air for about three months. Express Cargo confirmed to Cargo Facts that it owns the aircraft. The carrier also said it could be the first AOC granted under the new Part 119 of the Indonesian Civil Aviation Safety Regulations, which took effect in October 2022. After beginning commercial operations, Express Cargo hopes to add a second 737-300F later in 2023, the company said. Cardig Air’s one remaining 737-300F (23258) does not appear to have flown since late January. Indonesia has been one of the top recipients of 737 Classic freighters in the past couple of years, with multiple carriers favoring the type for domestic operations. Most recently, Airfast Indonesia added its first 737-300F (29333) in late 2022, joining Black Stone Airlines , Cardig Air, Jayawijaya Dirgantara and Trigana Air Service, which only operate 737-300Fs but neither -400Fs nor -800Fs. Asia Cargo Airlines , My Indo Airlines , Rimbun Air and BBN Airlines Indonesia have or will have both Classics and NGs, while startup Raindo United Services has selected only 737-800Fs. All the carriers in Indonesia with 737 Classic and NG freighters, including known planned additions, are shown below.
