This week, United Kingdom-based IAG Cargo said it will launch a direct route from its London Heathrow (LHR) hub to Islamabad, Pakistan, to begin next spring, in a move to increase its connections between Europe and Southeast Asia.

The service will launch in June 2019 and run three times a week, year-round, offering 15 tonnes of capacity per flight and temperature-controlled capabilities on a 787-8 freighter. Some of the commodities expected to be carried on the route include electronic devices, textiles, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.

“This addition builds on our strong entry points into Southeast Asia,” said Camilo Garcia, director of sales, marketing and products at IAG Cargo. Other entry points include Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur and others.

Islamabad is one of three destinations the carrier plans to introduce next year, including Pittsburgh and Osaka.
