Cargo carrier West Atlantic UK and KLM UK Engineering, the wholly owned MRO subsidiary of KLM Engineering & Maintenance, have agreed to extend their airframe maintenance contract. The two companies first entered into the maintenance deal at the end of 2017, taking effect in January 2018.

Under the contract, KLM UK Engineering will carry out heavy maintenance on West Atlantic UK’s fleet of 737 freighters, consisting of six -300SFs, thirteen -400SFs and four -800BCFs. The KLM UK Engineering facility is at Norwich International Airport (NWI) and includes three hangars with five maintenance bays.

West Atlantic and KLM UK Engineering last renewed their contract in January 2019.

West Atlantic became the first operator of the 737-800BCF in April 2018, when it took redelivery of the first of four (32740) on lease from launch customer GECAS. The UK carrier then put it into service for FedEx in July 2018.

LUSAT, the Spanish holding company which owns Aviation Leasing Spain, Cygnus Air, and Swiftair, became the majority shareholder of Sweden-based West Atlantic Group earlier this year.
