Latvian cargo-oriented airline RAF-Avia has stationed a second aircraft at the Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, further establishing the carrier’s presence in Germany.
Not to be confused with the British defense organization, RAF-Avia was established in Latvia in 1990 and is based out of Riga, the country’s capital. Six Antonov An-26 aircraft comprise the backbone of the fleet, as well as two Saab 340s, which can handle both cargo and passenger flights.
According to Roger Scheifele, senior vice president, cargo and business development, at Frankfurt Hahn, RAF-Avia elected to transfer from Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport to Frankfurt-Hahn because the latter provided 24-hour operations and greater freight operations flexibility. Frankfurt-Hahn is Germany’s 6th-largest cargo airport. Last year, the airport handled around 80,000 tonnes of freight.
Frankfurt-Hahn also offers night operation and short distances from the cargo hangar to the airport apron.
