MASkargo becomes first Southeast Asian carrier to sign with cargo.one

Malaysia Airlines’ airfreight division MASkargo has signed on as the first Southeast Asian airline to join Germany-based digital booking platform cargo.one. Freight forwarders will be able to book capacity to any of MASkargo’s Asian and Australian destinations before the end of the year, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Indonesia, China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), according to today’s cargo.one release. The e-booking partnership works in tandem with MASkargo’s digital sales and distribution strategy to expand its global presence, according to the release. Cargo.one is focusing on a global expansion strategy, recently launching in North America with 18 airline partners . [caption id="attachment_78441" align="alignright" width="339"] Photo/MASKargo[/caption] Digital booking has become a valuable tool for both carriers and freight forwarders , as discussed by panelists in this week’s Air Cargo World webinar — especially as industry stakeholders continue to invest in automated processes to boost productivity and improve supply chain visibility. “The benefit of digital booking, from our standpoint, is to be able to function anywhere, anytime, on any device,” Katia Axberg, director of global sales, marketing and central service center at Dimerco Express Group, said during yesterday’s webinar . “When we see [people] work from home, people want to be able to function from any location they could be. We want to access different channels [and] maybe there are some customers who don’t want to work with a freight forwarder in the same traditional way.” During the past year, U.S. and Singapore e-commerce demand has fueled Malaysian exports and demand . In turn, Malaysia-based carriers like Kargo Xpress and Raya Airways have been diversifying and ramping up cargo operations to strengthen e-commerce links between Malaysia and China. In addition to scheduled and chartered freighter services, MASkargo offers bellyspace capacity on Malaysia Airlines passenger flights and ground handling services, according to the release. MASkargo is based at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and operates a fleet of three A330-200Fs.
