New weekly freighter service between Belgium, Angola

Network Airline Management (NAM) and TAAG Angola Airlines have signed a long-term contract to provide a weekly 747-400F service from Liège, Belgium to Luanda, the capital of Angola.

With oil inching back over US$50 per barrel, Angola’s recovering hydrocarbon-driven economy relies on the timely delivery of sophisticated parts and equipment to run its oil and gas sector and meet development goals. The southwest African country imported $148 million worth of thermostats in 2014 alone, and $67.6 worth of gas and liquid-flow measuring instruments.

With the 747-400F able to carry 120 tonnes per flight, plus oversize cargo up to 20 meters in length, the consortium hopes “to develop the service to twice weekly in the near future.” The new service will also increase export capacity on the return flight from Angola back to Europe, with forwarding connections worldwide.
