Qatar Airways Cargo ramps up Budapest connectivity

Qatar Airways Cargo will add an additional 60 tonnes of weekly freighter capacity between its Doha hub and Budapest starting October 7, the airline announced. The additional A300-200F flight complements two extant weekly freighter flights already operating along the route, as well as daily bellyhold capacity offered on the carriers A320 flights.

The frequency increase is a timely “response to market needs in Hungary and Qatar,” explained Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport. “The operations of Qatar Airways Cargo fit perfectly into our airport’s strategic plans to become a leading cargo center in Central-Eastern Europe.”

Budapest Airports director of cargo operations, René Droese, added that the increasing frequencies allowed Hungarian manufacturers to “reach out to markets far away and build a solid base for growth and creation of further jobs in the region.”

In January-August 2016 Budapest Airport handled 70,268 tonnes of goods, while air cargo volume increased by 14.8 percent over the previous year. Budapest Airport serves Hungary’s electronics, fine machinery, automotive, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, according to the airport.
