WFS expands network, renews existing contracts

Ground handler Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) started off the new year by renewing existing relationships and adding a few more names to its growing client list, among them Aer Lingus and Ethiopian Airlines.

The firm secured a contract with a new client, Ethiopian Airlines, and expects to handle 5,200 tonnes of freight per year on its Miami to Addis Ababa flight. WFS also will begin operations in Canada in a new contract to handle 6,000 tonnes annually for Lufthansa. Additionally, the company will expand its existing relationship with Turkish Airlines to include freight handling service for its route from Houston to Istanbul.

WFS also acquired three new ramp-handling contracts out of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), now serving Austrian Airlines, Primera Air and Swiss International Air Lines at the airport.

The recent move comes after an eventful past two years for the company, in which the CEO abruptly left the company in 2016. Then, in 2017, WFS’ new leadership proceeded to lock down Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines as clients, and doubled down on cargo-handling growth by signing a 15-year lease for a 346,000-square-foot terminal at New York’s JFK.
