WFS gets handling contract for Qatar’s Pittsburgh freighter stop

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) was awarded the cargo handling contract for Qatar Airways Cargo’s new twice-weekly scheduled 777 freighter stop at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).

Qatar Airways Cargo launched the new stop on Oct. 11, making Pittsburgh the thirteenth U.S. city in Qatar Cargo’s network, and Qatar Airways the first international airline with scheduled freighter service to PIT. The new stop adds an additional 200 tonnes of cargo capacity per week into Pennsylvania, on top of the 100 tonnes of belly capacity per week offered on Qatar Airways’ daily A350 passenger flights into Philadelphia.

WFS has been on a roll with recent additions to its cargo handling operations. Last month, the handler secured three new customers – Lufthansa, SAS and Swiss International Air Lines – via contracts beginning in September and October at Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS), more than doubling its cargo-handling capacity there. Back in June, WFS scored another deal with Qatar Airways to provide cargo handling in Stockholm, where the airline flies 13 times per week from its Doha hub, under a three-year contract.
