AEI earns Malaysian approval for 737-800SF

Florida-based Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI) has earned regulatory approval for its 737-800SF conversion program from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) amid rising interest for 737NG freighters in Southeast Asia. AEI told Cargo Facts that it applied for the approval of its supplemental type certificate (STC) on a speculative basis without a specific customer identified and that it hopes to secure two more foreign approvals for the 737-800SF by yearend. (Photo/Cargo Facts)[/caption] The Malaysian certification is the ninth for AEI’s 737-800SF program, which earned U.K. approval earlier this year and more recently obtained Brazilian approval in July. In Malaysia, Cargo Facts believes that My Jet Xpress will be the next airline to make the transition from 737 Classic to NG freighters. The carrier, which currently operates a 737-400F along with three -300Fs and a -300QC, partnered with Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics Network late last year and said it would invest into adding two 737-800Fs, although it is unclear whether these will be AEI-converted -800SFs. AEI began the year in the pursuit of multiple certifications in a number of jurisdictions and has to date earned approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) , Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI), Director of Civil Aviation in Guernsey (DCA) and Brazilian National Agency of Civil Aviation (ANAC). Meanwhile, Malaysia is already home to two carriers with Boeing-converted 737-800BCFs: Kargo Xpress, which has two and will shortly begin flying a third (29670), and World Cargo Airlines, which also has two. My Jet Xpress’ affiliate in Indonesia, My Indo Airlines, acquired its first -800BCF earlier this year .
