German-based logistics company DB Schenker has launched a new online platform, “Logistics Orchestrator,” which is designed to centralize and optimize global supply chains for spare parts logistics.
A continuation of DB Schenker’s recent focus on technologically integrating operations, the Logistics Orchestrator enables customers to centrally manage all spares orders within a global distribution network, for both global delivery and order management. The logistics group says that because the supply of all spare parts ordered through its platform are ensured, delivery times to the end customer can be significantly reduced “by up to 30 percent.”
Traditionally, spares logistics within global distribution networks are coordinated independently at regional or local levels by different organizations, with widely varying enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and rules. This method of decentralized coordination, however, often limits transparency in supply chains, and consequently results in high storage and transport costs.
