DHL breaks ground on distribution center for Eaton

Today DHL Supply Chain, a division of Deutsche Post DHL, broke ground on the construction of a distribution center and storage facility in Rheinbach, Germany, that it has been contracted to design and build for Eaton, a Dublin-based power management company.

The 35,000-square-meter storage facility will connect to nearby DHL freight and parcel hubs that surround the Duisburg/Venlo seaport, serving clients of various industries within Eaton’s client base.

In an effort to meet the German Sustainable Building Council’s “gold standard” for sustainable building, the project will integrate energy-efficient features, like main LED and emergency lighting, as well as low- and medium-voltage distribution – all to maximize energy efficiency and improve turnaround-time of stored products.

In attendance of the official ground-breaking ceremony were Stefan Raetz, the mayor of Rheinbach, DHL executives Oscar de Bok and Karsten Schwarz, and Eaton executives Frank Campbell and Klaus Gäb. The companies plan to continue working together on modernizing Eaton’s locations in Germany, the U.K. and the Czech Republic. The site will be in operation from beginning of 2019.
