DHL relocates to new Nashville facility

DHL Express has invested $5.3 million to relocate and expand its service center in Nashville, Tenn., to a new facility with upgraded equipment and design to boost DHL service capabilities in the region as demand for as e-commerce continues to grow. Located near Nashville International Airport (BNA), the new 42,195-square-foot DHL facility is about 18,000 square feet larger than the previous location. The larger space can accommodate a double line conveyor belt system, enabling employees to work more efficiently. The new location also pilots DHL’s re-engineered master production schedule design to minimize warehouse square footage and improve process flow for cargo x-rays and inspections. By maximizing its processing capabilities, the system has doubled the facility’s morning sort capacity, allowing goods to leave the facility faster and enabling quicker deliveries, according to DHL. “The larger space has not only allowed us to keep up with the current demand due to the rise in online shopping, but it accommodates 10 years of growth capacity,” said Richard Saavedra, vice president and general manager of DHL Express, Southeast U.S. “Nashville continues to be an attractive market for importers and exporters because of its central location in the U.S., which provides easy access to global markets and growing trade opportunities.”
