Digital Pulse: Swissport adds electric vehicles to Basel, Geneva ops

Swissport increased its share of electric vehicles at French and Swiss airports with deliveries this week. (Courtesy/Swissport)[/caption] The ground handler introduced additional electric ground power units (eGPU) and electric vans at Geneva Airport (GVA) and EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg (BSL, MLH, EAP), according to a May 27 release from Swissport . Swissport aims to operate 55% electric vehicles in its global fleet by 2032 — a 42% reduction in CO2 from its 2022 operations, the release stated. At Swissport Basel, the share of electric ground support equipment is set to increase to 49% by the end of 2024, according to the release. Swissport Geneva’s fleet is 53% electric with a goal to reach 58% by yearend. “With the introduction of new electric vehicles, we are accelerating our transition to more sustainable operations,” Bruno Stefani , chief executive of Swissport Switzerland, Italy and France, said in the release. “This investment not only strengthens our fleet, but also underscores our pivotal role in the ecological transformation of the airline industry.” AA Cargo adds capacity to CargoAi platform American Airlines Cargo has added its capacity to CargoMART, the freight management platform from airfreight technology provider CargoAi . Through CargoMART, AA Cargo will offer freight forwarders access to its network and streamlined booking, according to a May 23 release from AA Cargo. AA Cargo capacity is also available for booking on the carrier’s own platform, aacargo.com. “Partnering with CargoAi is a significant step on our modernization journey,” AA Cargo President Greg Schwendinger said in the release. CargoMART features include: Real-time capacity and rate visibility; Quoting; Digital booking; Track and trace capabilities; and CO2 emissions tracking and comparison. American Airlines ranked 29th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top air cargo carriers, flying 2.9 billion cargo tonne kilometers in 2022. Georgi Group to adopt Hermes 5 system at German facilities Logistics company Georgi Handling , a subsidiary of Georgi Group , will transfer its two cargo handling facilities in Germany to Hermes Logistics Technologies ’ (HLT) Hermes 5 cargo management system, according to a May 20 release from HLT. (Courtesy/Georgi Handling)[/caption] Hermes 5 is HLT’s latest cargo management system (CMS) and forms the core of the Hermes Ecosystem, which comprises pay-as-you-go solutions such as Business Intelligence, Track & Trace and a Learning Management System, among others, according to HLT. Other companies to recently upgrade operations to Hermes 5 include Etihad Airport Services Cargo , CACC Cargolinx , Groundforce Portugal and dnata . “By opting for our Hermes 5 cloud-based solution, Georgi is preparing for future business growth and advances in technology, and futureproofing their cargo management services,” HLT Chief Executive Yuval Baruch said in the release. “We are ready for a quick rollout with our new, fully-automated implementation process, and have updated our online training service — the Hermes [Learning Management System] — to provide on-demand tuition in German.” Georgi Handling operates cargo handling facilities at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) in Germany, specializing in handling high-value pharmaceuticals and hazardous shipments, according to the release.
