DHL Supply Chain to manage Eaton’s European distribution centers

DHL Supply Chain and power management company Eaton announced the signing of an agreement, under which DHL Supply Chain will create and manage three European distribution centers for Eaton.

The centers will consolidate Eaton’s European business into three primary locations in Germany, the U.K. and the Czech Republic. The theory underlying the new distribution system is to increase warehousing efficiency through automation to reduce overall run times.

The launching of the facilities will take place over the next few years, beginning with a new building in Rheinbach, Germany, where DHL will store and distribute electric components, including switch cabinets, fuses and control devices. The Rheinbach center will serve western Europe after the facility is completed next year. Construction is scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2017.

As part of DHL’s and Eaton’s commitment to increasing sustainability in operations, the Rheinbach site will comply with standards for the German Society for Sustainable Construction and be built in line with the qualifications for a “silver certificate” from the association.
