Pigs are not yet flying, but pork products are a whole different story, and one that is constantly evolving thanks to a collaboration between Flirtey Drone and Domino’s Pizza in New Zealand. The project is still in beta, but the two companies are planning to scale up their pizza-by-drone deliveries “in the near future.”
“We are moving closer and closer to widespread, store-to-door drone delivery,” said Matthew Sweeny, CEO of Flirtey. “To conduct these deliveries in an urban environment while delivering a hot, fresh pizza, is a validation of our delivery system that assures Flirtey is prepared for mass-market deliveries around the globe.”
The demand is there, at least according to Domino’s. A recent customer poll by the pizza-delivery giant found that 70 percent of their customers would use “DRU Drone” by Flirtey for their deliveries. “We believe drone delivery will be an essential component of our pizza deliveries,” said Domino’s Group CEO and managing director Don Meij said drone delivery is safer and faster than the human kind – the target is 10 minutes, he said – and provides each Domino’s location with a wider deliver area. “This is the future,” Meij added.
