Reactivated 747-300 Combi begins cargo ops for Conviasa

Venezuela-based Conviasa has started service with a 747-300 Combi that it recently reactivated for its newly created subsidiary Emtrasur. The 1996-vintage 747-300M (23413, ex-Mahan Air), powered by four General Electric CF6 engines, is only one of two 747-300s in cargo operation and began flight testing in Tehran (THR) in late January. After its retirement from Air France, unit 23413 was picked up by Iran-based Mahan Air but had been inactive until recently. (Photo/Minsk National Airport)[/caption] Dubbed “Luisa Caceres de Arismendi,” the aircraft arrived in Minsk (MSQ) Feb. 9 and departed today with humanitarian supplies from Belarus to Venezuela, according to a release by Minsk National Airport. Mahan Air will operate the aircraft on a CMI basis for Emtrasur, according to a local report. Conviasa President Ramon Velasquez Aranguayan announced in March 2021 the creation of Aerocargo Del Sur, or Emtrasur, to transport national and international cargo from and to Venezuela and to establish an air bridge with China, Russia and Iran. The government also announced its intention to transform El Libertador Air Base in Maracay into a hub for cargo operations. Unit 23413, like the 747-400 Combi that JetOneX recently acquired, has a large cargo door and aft cargo compartment. The only other 747-300 in operation is the 1990-vintage unit 24837, currently in service with Belarus-based TransAviaExport. With a limited supply of widebodies and a limited supply of serviceable 747s parked, U.A.E-based Global Service Solutions (GSS) reactivated a 1981-vintage 747-200F (22545, ex-Air Georgia) in May of 2021.
