Relic flies into boneyard with great fanfare (and its not an MD-80) [VIDEO]

KLM Cargo transported a rare skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex from the United States to the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in the Netherlands this week, with cameras on hand to capture the airborne dinosaur.

The fossilized beast, nicknamed Trix, weighs around 6,000 kilograms – having shed an impressive 3,000 kilos following her demise – and is around 13 meters in length. That part hasn’t changed. According to people that study these things, Trix roamed North America around 66 million years ago.

The skeleton, found in the U.S. state of Montana, arrived at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Aug. 24. Trix’s mortal remains were then trucked to the city of Leiden with great fanfare, and with Dutch TV presenter and celebrity naturalist Freek Vonk on hand to cover the event.
