Central Airlines flies 777F to EMA for YunExpress

Chinese logistics firm YunExpress began operating a 777F in partnership with Chinese cargo carrier Central Airlines from China to East Midlands Airport (EMA) in the United Kingdom. Central will fly this route on behalf of YunExpress twice a week initially, with plans to increase frequency, according to a release from EMA today. (Courtesy/EMA)[/caption] “I’m delighted we have landed this deal with Central Airlines and YunExpress , the first Chinese cargo operators here, making us the first U.K. airport to take their flights,” EMA Managing Director Steve Griffiths stated in the release. Central Airlines , based out of Haikou (HAK) in Hainan province, flew to twelve countries and forty-three airports in 2024, according to the release. On this new 777F route , Central flies from Tianjin (TSN) to EMA and returns to Xiamen (XMN). Central flew from TSN to EMA for the first time May 5 with the 2010-vintage unit 37715 (ex-China Cargo Airlines), one of two 777Fs the airline flies for YunExpress. Routes roundup Other cargo carriers have also announced new or expanded routes recently. FedEx has increased its 777F service between Liege (LGG) and Memphis (MEM) to eight weekly flights from five, beginning April 28. FedEx launched the LGG-MEM route in April 2017. Challenge Group launched weekly freighter service to Bengaluru (BLR) from Tel Aviv (TLV) on May 4 using one of its 767-300BDSFs. Qatar Airways Cargo will begin a weekly 777F flight to Penang, Malaysia (PEN), on May 16, the carrier announced. The freighter service will operate on the Doha (DOH)-Singapore (SIN)-PEN-DOH route every Friday, offering 100 tonnes of cargo capacity on each leg. Qatar also began flying a 777F to Atlanta (ATL) on May 10. The flight will operate twice a week on the DOH-Frankfurt (FRA)-ATL-DOH route. DSV introduced an air charter route connecting ORD and Shanghai (PVG) today. The route, named “Shanghai Star,” will operate multiple weekly roundtrip flights, DSV said in a release. JAL Cargo , the cargo arm of Japan Airlines, began flying six weekly flights from Narita (NRT) to Hong Kong (HKG), up from zero on its spring schedule, on May 12. This route will continue through Oct. 25, according to a recent release. For its summer schedule, JAL Cargo also increased flight frequencies from NRT to TSN to three times a week and from NRT to Taipei (TPE) to once a week. The carrier also established a weekly cargo route between NRT and ICN. Turkish Cargo has gained access to additional freighter capacity through an ACMI deal with Atlas Air, that connects Istanbul (IST) with cities including Chicago (ORD), Atlanta (ATL) and Miami (MIA). Atlas flew a production 747-400F (30767, ex-China Airlines) that it purchased in 2024 from ORD to IST on May 6, kicking off the ACMI deal. Cathay Cargo is reconfiguring its Australian freighter operations and will move its weekly 747-8F flight from Wellcamp (WTB) to Brisbane (BNE) beginning June 17. WTB and BNE are about 130 kilometers apart. The move will streamline operations, the carrier said in a May 1 release. Avianca and TAAG Angola Airlines signed a special prorate agreement in April to expand the cargo reach of both entities. The agreement allows TAAG to expand its footprint in South America, namely Bogota (BOG) in Colombia, Santiago (SCL) in Chile, Lima (LIM) in Peru, Montevideo (MVD) in Uruguay and Quito (UIO) in Ecuador. Avianca will gain access to African destinations, including Luanda (LAD) in Angola, Johannesburg (JNB) and Cape Town (CPT) in South Africa, Lagos (LOS) in Nigeria, Libreville (LBV) in Gabon, Kinshasa (FIH) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazzaville (BZV) in the Republic of Congo and Nairobi (NBO) in Kenya. TAAG Angola also launched weekly 737-800BCF (33552) service between NBO and LAD on April 30 to capitalize on Kenya’s flower export industry. WestJet Cargo will double flight frequency on its route between Calgary (YYC) in Alberta, and Seoul (ICN) in South Korea to six weekly flights. This service will run from May 19 through Oct. 13 to meet increased demand for cargo and passenger capacity, according to an April 28 release. WestJet will fly a 787-9 on the route.
