Qantas launches direct SYD-PVG flight with A330-200P2F

Qantas will launch non-stop service between Sydney and Shanghai on June 26 with an A330-200P2F.

Qantas operates two A330-200P2Fs (842 and 853) that it converted from its own passenger fleet.

(Courtesy/Qantas)[/caption] The freighter will fly twice weekly between Sydney (SYD) and Shanghai (PVG), the carrier said in a June 17 release.

“Global freight demand to and from Asia continues to grow,” Igor Kwiatkowski, executive manager at Qantas Freight, said in the release. “The new Shanghai services ... to and from China’s busiest cargo port [also offers] more transship options to key U.S. destinations.”

Routes roundup Other cargo carriers have announced new or expanded routes recently.

Avianca Cargo and Amazon Air Cargo are providing daily 767-300F charter service between Miami (MIA) and Bogota (BOG) in Colombia as part of a new deal, according to a recent social media post from Avianca Cargo. The service began in April.

Emirates SkyCargo , the cargo arm of Emirates, will add two weekly charter 777F flights between Milan (MXP) and southeast China, via Dubai (DWC), in the third quarter, according to a June 2 release. Additionally, the weekly freighter flight connecting DWC, Maastricht (MST) in the Netherlands and Zaragoza (ZAZ) in Spain will add a stop in Beirut (BEY). However, Emirates SkyCargo has suspended all flights to BEY through June 22 due to the Israel-Iran conflict.

My Freighter signed an interline agreement with Icelandair Cargo in May, expanding its connectivity to central Asia, northern Europe and North America, according to a May 23 release from My Freighter. The agreement gives My Freighter access to North American hubs including New York (JFK); Washington, D.C. (IAD); Orlando, Fla. (MCO); Minneapolis, (MSP); and Toronto (YYZ). Earlier this year, My Freighter also entered into similar agreements with Air Europa and Aeromexico.

Qatar Airways has expanded capacity to and from Australia through an interline agreement with Virgin Australia, according to a May 12 release. Beginning this month, Qatar Cargo offers more than 400 tonnes of belly cargo capacity each week to Australia’s Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), Perth (PER) and SYD on its own and Virgin Australia flights. As part of an ACMI deal, Qatar operates daily 777-300ER flights for Virgin between SYD, BNE, PER and Doha (DOH) in Qatar and will add daily flights from MEL in December.

Air Canada began three weekly passenger flights from YYZ to Prague (PRG) on June 6 with its A330-300s. The airline also began flying routes from Montreal (YUL) to Porto, Portugal (OPO), this month; YUL to Naples, Italy (NAP), in May; and Canada’s Ottawa (YOW) to London (LHR) in April, according to a June 7 release. This month, Air Canada will also launch a route from YUL to Edinburgh (EDI) in Scotland. These routes are all served by passenger jets with belly cargo capacity.

Cathay Pacific launched nonstop passenger flights between Hong Kong (HKG) and Munich (MUC) on June 16. The four weekly flights, operated by A350-900s, will offer belly capacity for cargo, according to a June 16 release. The carrier will also begin flights to Brussels (BRU) on Aug. 3 and Adelaide, Australia (ADL), on Nov. 11.

WestJet has launched daily, year-round pax service between Calgary (YYC) in Alberta, Canada, and Tokyo’s Narita (NRT), according to a May 26 release. WestJet will fly a 787-9 on the route, with each flight offering 22 tonnes and 80 cubic meters of cargo capacity.
