TLX Cargo fights coronavirus with new barrier cargo cover

TLX Cargo and partner Web Dynamics Ltd. have launched TLX WEB 15, a cargo cover with a viral barrier, in response to industry concerns regarding product contamination by COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. The new cargo cover, intended to support health security during the transportation of goods, is the world’s first to be built with the viral-barrier material, according to a press release from TLX Cargo, which is part of U.K.-based TLX Insulation, a cool-chain fabric manufacturer. Web Dynamics, also based in the U.K., develops a variety of insulative and other materials. The TLX WEB15 is a stitch-free, breathable, waterproof cargo cover built from material that can block viruses between 0.1 – 0.2 microns. The cover is part of a two-part system with a cover and a base that, when sealed with tape, act as a viral barrier for covered goods. The material used in the product passed testing by Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake City, Nev., according to the press release. As part of the testing, when bacteriophage was applied by lab scientists at a pressure of 14 kPa, or 2 pounds per square inch, the viruses failed to pass through the material. TLX Cargo said it had developed the product to support customers seeking methods to ensure product control against viral contamination, regardless of external environment. TLX Cargo developed insulation products for nearly 25 years, and over the last 12 years its products have been applied to a wide variety of projects ranging from the London 2012 Olympics to many historic and public buildings.
