Transactions: China Airlines extends contract with Frankfurt Cargo Services

China Airlines has signed a multiyear contract for cargo handling at Frankfurt Airport with Frankfurt Cargo Services . [caption id="attachment_57144566" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/Worldwide Flight Services)[/caption] China Airlines signed its first cargo handling agreement in 2000 with Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS), a subsidiary of Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), part of the Sats Group , according to an Aug. 8 release from WFS. China Airlines, FCS’ oldest airline customer, transports about 25,000 tonnes of cargo annually on its Boeing 777 flights connecting Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). FCS is the largest airline-independent cargo handler at FRA, serving about 50 international airline customers and handling about 600,000 tonnes of air cargo annually, according to the release. FRA ranks 13th on Air Cargo Next ’s top 50 cargo airports list, with throughput of 1.97 million tonnes of cargo in 2022. FRA ranks first among European airports. The contract also extends China Airlines’ partnership with WFS, which provides cargo handling for the airline in parts of Europe, Asia and North America. China Airlines ranks 10th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers, flying 6.4 billion cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) in 2022. WFS to supply ground handling for Turkish Airlines at DEN [caption id="attachment_57144569" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/Worldwide Flight Services)[/caption] Turkish Airlines has awarded a three-year ground handling contract to WFS at Denver International Airport (DEN), according to an Aug. 6 release from WFS. Turkish Airlines began operations to DEN in June and operates four weekly flights using Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 airliners between Istanbul International Airport (IST) and DEN. DEN is the Turkish Airlines’ 14th destination in the United States, according to the release. “Denver is an important and growing market, which is attracting more international and domestic airline operators,” Paul Walton , senior vice president of ground handling for the Americas at WFS, said in the release. Under the contract, WFS will provide ramp, aircraft pushback, baggage handling, cargo loading and unloading, airside cargo transportation, and cabin cleaning. WFS already provides ground handling services for Turkish Airlines in Chicago (ORD) and now provides ground handling for 21 airlines at DEN, according to the release. Turkish Airlines ranks seventh on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 8.3 billion CTKs in 2022. My Freighter, American Airlines sign interline agreement [caption id="attachment_57144568" align="alignright" width="300"] (Courtesy/My Freighter)[/caption] Tashkent, Uzbekistan-based cargo airline My Freighter and American Airlines signed an interline agreement that went into effect Aug. 1, according to an Aug. 14 release from My Freighter. Through the agreement, My Freighter adds access to 11 destinations including: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), which ranks 21st on the top 50 cargo airports list; Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT); Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), which ranks 34th on the list; Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH); London Heathrow Airport (LHR), which ranks 24th on the list; Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD); Munich International Airport (MUC); New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which ranks 22nd on the list; Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), which ranks 14th on the list; and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). In return, My Freighter offers American Airlines access to Tashkent International Airport (TAS) and Central Asia through its road-feeder service trucking network, according to the release. My Freighter operates a Boeing 767-300BCF to various destinations in Europe, according to the release. American Airlines ranks 29th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 2.9 billion CTKs in 2022. Hong Kong Air Cargo, ZTO sign cooperation agreement [caption id="attachment_57144567" align="alignright" width="300"] Representatives of Hong Kong Air Cargo and ZTO Express Group sign a cooperation agreement on Aug. 1. (Courtesy/Hong Kong Air Cargo)[/caption] Hong Kong Air Cargo signed a cooperation memorandum with delivery and logistics company ZTO Express Group this month to provide aircraft management and charter services to ZTO, according to an Aug. 1 release from Hong Kong Air Cargo. Shanghai-based ZTO’s express delivery network includes more than 28,900 pickup/delivery outlets and 79 sorting hubs that cover more than 97.7% of China’s cities and counties, according to ZTO’s website. Hong Kong Air Cargo operates a fleet of five Airbus A330-200F widebody freighters, according to its website.
