Unisys’ new A.I. software to be used by U.S. Customs

Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has chosen third-party software and IT company Unisys Corp. to “develop, operate and manage systems used for risk assessments” of both people and cargo entering the United States, in accordance with CBP’s Targeting and Analysis Systems Program Directorate (TASPD).

The system’s objective is to prevent clearance delays and enhance security by identifying low- and high-risk passengers and cargo. Using data analytics, cloud technology and biometrics, the system will allow CBP officers and agents to identify situations that require pursuit of additional inspection.

In March, the company debuted its machine-learning, predictive data analytics software, called LineSight, which employs artificial intelligence (A.I.) algorithms that learn and improve processes overtime.

Amy Rall, group vice president for homeland security and critical infrastructure at Unisys, said the new procedures will “help secure the nation’s supply chain and support CBP’s layered defense strategy for international cargo and passengers.”
