People: Al Osman named chief digital officer at Air Canada

Air Canada appointed Firas Al Osman as the airline’s first chief digital officer, effective Sept. 9. [caption id="attachment_57145099" align="alignright" width="221"] Firas Al Osman[/caption] Al Osman is responsible for development and implementation of a digital transformation strategy at Air Canada , according to a Sept. 10 release. Focus areas include: Enhancing customer experience; Driving efficiency and innovation; and Improving operational processes and performance. Al Osman was previously a partner at Deloitte , team lead at Nokia and software engineer at Nortel Networks . Air Canada ranks 36th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list of top cargo carriers, flying 1.9 billion cargo tonne kilometers (CTK) in 2022. Manolopoulos joins SmartLynx as fleet director [caption id="attachment_57144649" align="alignright" width="210"] Harris Manolopoulos[/caption] ACMI, cargo and charter provider SmartLynx Airlines appointed Harris Manolopoulos as director of fleet. Manolopoulos has nearly 20 years of experience in the aviation industry and was fleet director at Spanish airline Volotea and a general manager at S ky Express Airlines , according to an Aug. 16 release. In this role, Manolopoulos leads the fleet management department and is responsible for all aspects of SmartLynx’s passenger and cargo fleet. SmartLynx expects delivery of its 14th Airbus 321P2F by yearend. Negi takes CTO position at Kale Logistics [caption id="attachment_57145101" align="alignright" width="215"] Tribhuwan Negi[/caption] Technology products provider Kale Logistics Solutions appointed Tribhuwan Negi as chief technology officer. One of Negi’s initial focuses will be overseeing development of AI-driven applications, according to a Sept. 16 release from Kale . Negi has nearly 25 years of experience building large-scale software-as-a-service platforms and leading R&D organizations, according to the release. He has held positions at franconnect , Technodeation Labs , Perspica and Dell . “Logistics and supply chain technology is seeing rapid technological advancement,” Negi said in the release. Lufthansa Cargo names Berthonneau as VP of Asia-Pacific Lufthansa Cargo has appointed Elodie Berthonneau as vice president of Asia-Pacific, effect Oct. 1. She will succeed J. Florian Pfaff , who has held the position since June 2019. [caption id="attachment_57145097" align="alignright" width="221"] Elodie Berthonneau[/caption] From Singapore, Berthonneau will head the sales and handling organization in China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Oceania. Berthonneau comes from Qatar Cargo , where she was vice president of network planning and strategic partnership. She has more than 25 years of experience in aviation and has also worked at Air France KLM . Lufthansa ranks 16th on Air Cargo Next ’s Freight 50 list, flying 5.2 billion CTKs in 2022. Barros to manage Menzies Aviation Macau [caption id="attachment_57144644" align="alignright" width="198"] Anabela Barros[/caption] Menzies Aviation appointed Anabela Barros as managing director of Menzies Aviation Macau . She succeeds Raymond Lo , who in May was appointed chief executive of Menzies CNAC , the rebranded name of Jardine Aviation Services Group , in which Menzies acquired a 50% stake in January. Barros joined Menzies in 2002 and was most recently head of commercial and cargo services for Menzies Macau. Menzies has been operating at Macau International Airport (MFM) for 30 years. Heumann has two decades of experience in communications and marketing, including in the transport and logistics sectors, according to a Sept. 2 release. She previously worked at deugro group and the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics . Van Leth has worked in logistics for more than 25 years and specializes in project cargo, according to a Sept. 5 release. He previously worked at Fracht Netherlands , Special Cargo Services , Terberg Special Vehicles and STL Logistics . Taylor, who has more than 20 years of experience in project cargo and shipping, will take responsibility for the day-to-day operations and development of the company’s U.K. business, according to a Sept. 23 release. He has previously worked at Transcar Projects , Escombe Lambert Holdings , the Shipping Corporation of India and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co.
