该指数根据选定商品的进出口贸易数据，用于季度经济增长计量。根据2013年以来的选定范围，最新一期的晴雨表指数于1月中旬发布，数值为64分，略低于前几个月的数值（50分以上即表示全球贸易扩张）。航空货运方面，与上个月相比，晴雨表指数下跌了两个百分点（尽管保持71分），主要是由于美国与德国之间的航空货运量下降所导致。报告指出，中国、日本贸易前景疲软，“全球贸易虽然处于扩张模式，但增长正在失去动力”。
