Hot Ho Chi Minh commodities attract Cargolux

Export commodities from Vietnam’s rapidly growing industrial base in Ho Chi Minh City are driving the demand for airfreight, prompting Luxembourg-based Cargolux to increase the frequency of its scheduled freighter service to Ho Chi Minh City to three times weekly, beginning today.Cargolux_09_HR

Cargolux first launched service to Ho Chi Minh City in 2007 and began flying to the nation’s capitol, Hanoi, in 2013 to support Vietnam’s burgeoning economy.  Vietnam’s gross domestic product expanded by 6.7 percent last year and is expected to grow at similar levels through 2020. This will be Cargolux’s seventh weekly flight into Vietnam.

The carrier noted strong demand for export commodities in Vietnam, which is in the process of “rapidly ramping up its trade and manufacturing industries.”  Apart from general cargo, air cargo exports include textiles, footwear, handicrafts and electronics, as well as seafood products and other perishables. It is estimated that more than 50 percent of Ho Chi Minh City’s exports are destined for Europe and North America – markets within easy reach via Cargolux’s network.

Flights into Ho Chi Minh City on the new route depart from Doha and return to Luxembourg via stopovers in Singapore and Baku.
